Spiral Freezer Belt: The Buyer's Guide
By Spring Liu, Sales Director, JBL Mesh Belt · 16 years in metal conveyor belts · Updated 21 October 2026
A spiral freezer belt is not bought by width and length. It has to turn on your drum, engage your drive and run in the right direction, tier after tier. This guide walks through what equipment builders, food plants and belt distributors check before they buy — the dimensions to confirm, how a belt is replaced without the original drawing, what to ask a supplier in China, and what happens from order to pick-up.

Who This Guide Is For
Building spiral freezers or coolers (OEM)
Will the belt engage our drive and turn on our drum — and will the next batch be the same?

Replacing a belt in your plant
We have no drawing, the old belt is worn — will the new one run on our line?

For OEMs: The Belt Is Part of the Drive System
Drive engagement and turning are decided at the design stage. Before a spiral design is released, the belt pitch, edge, turn ratio and the sprocket tooth, bore and material are checked together, as one system.
| What we review on your drawing | Why |
|---|---|
| Rod pitch, rod diameter, link thickness and height | The drum or tooth meets the belt at these points |
| Turn ratio, inside radius and how it is measured | Decides how far the links close on the curve |
| Edge type and weld finish | The inside edge rides on the drum |
| Sprocket tooth, bore, keyway, material | Belt and sprocket must be designed to the same numbers |
| Running direction, tiers, total length | Changes which side carries load |
Your drawings are used only for your project and are not shared with other customers. The confirmed specification is kept, and repeat orders are checked against it.

The Checks Before a Spiral Belt Is Quoted
Same width and same pitch do not mean the same belt. These are confirmed before a formal quotation. If one is missing, the project stays in engineering review.
| # | Check | What we need from you |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Drum diameter | Measured value |
| 2 | Turn ratio and turning radius | The ratio, and whether the radius is to the inside edge or the centreline |
| 3 | Running direction | Clockwise or counter-clockwise, ascending or descending |
| 4 | Pitch, rod and link | Caliper readings; new or worn |
| 5 | Edge type and weld finish | Close-up photos of the edge |
| 6 | Drive and sprockets | Drive type; tooth count, bore, keyway |
| 7 | Working temperature and cleaning | Lowest and highest temperature, cleaning method |
Reference specification for our Spiral Freezer Belt: SUS304 / SUS316; rod pitch 19.05 / 25.4 / 27 / 27.4 / 38.1 / 40 mm (0.750 / 1.000 / 1.063 / 1.079 / 1.500 / 1.575 in); rod diameter 5.0 / 6.0 mm (0.197 / 0.236 in); belt width 300–2900 mm (11.81–114.17 in); turn ratio 1.15–2.5. Final dimensions follow the confirmed project drawing.

Replacing a Spiral Belt Without the Original Drawing
Most replacements start from the old belt, a sample, photos or an original belt code. The dimensions are measured, checked against your drum and drive, and confirmed with a sample or trial length before production.
A worn belt is not the original size. On one spiral cooling belt replacement, the original link measured 2.42 mm after years of service; the new link was made at 2.71 mm. Copying the worn reading would have carried the wear into the new belt.
| You have | How the replacement starts |
|---|---|
| The original drawing | Drawing review, then sample |
| The old belt or a short section | Measured with a caliper, reverse-checked against your equipment |
| Photos only | Indicative quotation; a sample or more readings before the formal quotation |
| An original belt name or code | Used to identify the belt; structure and dimensions still confirmed against it |
Worn sprockets are reviewed from photos and readings before the belt is matched. Where the sprockets are replaced too, new ones can be made from your originals and run on the new belt before shipment.

Buying a Spiral Belt From China: What to Ask Any Supplier
A quotation tells you little on its own. Ask what the supplier checks before quoting, what you will see during production, and how the next order is kept the same.
| Ask | A good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Which dimensions do you need? | More than width and length: drum, turn ratio, direction, drive |
| How do you measure a worn belt? | Readings on the old belt, with the worn values identified |
| Can we trial a short length first? | Yes, with photo comparison against the original before bulk |
| What will I see before shipment? | Readings, photos and video, including a drum test |
| How will I know where my order is? | Regular updates until the goods are collected |
| How is the repeat order kept the same? | The confirmed specification is kept and used for the next order |
From Order to Pick-up
After you approve the quotation, you receive a written order confirmation, a payment confirmation, a status update every Thursday, and inspection readings, photos and video before the cases are closed. Updates continue until the goods are collected at destination.
| Stage | What you receive |
|---|---|
| Order confirmation | Proforma invoice and the confirmed specification |
| Payment | Written payment confirmation and production start notice |
| Production | A status update every Thursday |
| Before shipment | Drum test, readings, photos and video |
| Packing | Sections of 3.3 m as standard, packed flat or in rolls; section numbers and running-direction arrows; a 0.3 m spare length; neutral packing with no Chinese markings |
| Documents | Shipping email, packing list, material certificate, export documents; a preferential certificate of origin where it applies |
| Transit to pick-up | Thursday freight updates, Shipping Notice, Arrival Notice, customs clearance documents, Pick-up Notice |
Courier, air or sea freight is chosen with you before shipment. Lead time is confirmed in writing in each quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1What do you need to quote a spiral freezer belt?
Drum diameter, turn ratio and its measuring point, running direction, pitch, rod and link readings, edge type, drive and sprocket details, and total length. Photos with a caliper are enough to start; we list what is still missing.
Q2Can a spiral belt be replaced without the original drawing?
Yes. The old belt, a sample or photos are measured, checked against your equipment and confirmed with a sample before production.
Q3Can we trial a short length first?
Yes. A trial length can be linked into your existing belt and run before bulk. Samples and trial lengths are quoted for each project.
Q4What is checked before a spiral belt ships?
Every spiral belt order is drum-tested. Key dimensions, edge welds and, where sprockets are supplied, a sprocket running test are checked. Readings, photos and video are sent to you before the cases are closed.
Q5How is a long spiral belt packed?
In sections of 3.3 m as standard, flat or in rolls, each labelled with a section number and a running-direction arrow, with a 0.3 m spare length. Packing is neutral.
Q6How will we know where the order is?
Every Thursday you receive a status update, including freight status after shipment, until the goods are collected at destination.
